The city of Toronto sought to understand the public's sentiment towards all that Centre Island, its new park, has to offer.
To gain a comprehensive understanding of the issues surrounding Toronto’s Centre Island, we conducted an in-depth analysis using 5 key topic areas from the City of Toronto: Transportation, Beaches, Organizations, Places, and Businesses. Our team reviewed public sentiment across key platforms including Google Reviews, Facebook, Twitter, and TripAdvisor. We segmented the analysis into quarterly periods, spanning from March 2017 to March 2020, to track evolving trends and identify recurring concerns. This approach allowed us to capture a broad and accurate view of the public's perception and key issues related to Centre Island.
We presented a sentiment distribution, top topics of discussion, and plotted each individual topic by sentiment intensity. The analysis of public sentiment toward Centre Island revealed an overall positive perception. Discussions primarily centered around places and businesses, both showing a strong trend of positive sentiment. Negative feedback was mostly isolated to food and beverage experiences within the business category. These trends, whether positive or negative, remained consistent over time, suggesting a generally predictable and favorable visitor experience. However, the sustained negative sentiments around food and beverage offerings highlight potential areas for improvement, especially given Toronto’s reputation for diverse and high-quality dining.
